“Social Media Team Raises Club’s Profile” | The NYFC Newsletter
By Dennis Rendleman
The New York Flute Club (NYFC) has continually evolved throughout its 105-year history to best serve and foster community among musicians within its membership. It is this —the NYFC’s ability to keep in touch with its members and the trends of the time— that has allowed the organization to fulfill its mission of offering performance opportunities for flutists and composers for over 100 years. Most recently, the club has focused its attention on gradually shifting away from its traditional paper communications toward a more digitally focused system. This adjustment propelled the NYFC into the social-media realm. The club maintains an active presence on Facebook, Instagram and, most recently, Threads.
Jessica Ringston is one of four members of the Social Media Team.
The newly formed NYFC Social Media Team aims to ensure that timely information is available to members of the NYFC community who might want to attend and/or participate in performances, mastery classes, and rehearsals, as well as enjoy member spotlights, newsletter features, photos or video appearances throughout the season.
This season our committee was challenged to build a more consistent presence for the NYFC across its various social platforms.
Our team is made up of four talented volunteers: Jenny Cline, Darwin Cosme- Sánchez, Dennis Rendleman (chair), and Jessica Ringston. Each of these individuals has found creative ways of contributing to the team by utilizing his or her own unique social-media skills. Darwin Cosme serves as our main graphic designer and creates impressive posters for each of the events listed throughout the season calendar. Jessica Ringston develops informative captions for our various postings. NYFC veteran Jenny Cline has brought a wealth of insight and knowledge about the club’s history. As a contributor to the NYFC YouTube channel, Cline knows a lot about archived performances, which often make for great throwback content.
It has been a joy for me to serve as chair of the Social Media Team this season and I am so proud of the growth we are already seeing with this new approach to media coverage. Since last October, our Instagram has grown to 1,500 followers and is averaging 29,000 views monthly. The NYFC Facebook account isalso seeing steady growth.
Our recent transition from Twitter to Threads has greatly improved our posting efficiency. Facebook, Instagram and Threads all fall under Meta Platforms, Inc. This is great because we are often able to develop a singular post that will automatically populate to all three platforms, instead of having to create separate content for each platform.
We are always looking for fun, flute- related content—especially video—to post/ repost on our platforms. If you have any content to feature please share it with us by tagging the NYFC in the post itself.
All other requests can be sent to socialmedia@nyfluteclub.org or through Direct Messages (DMs) on Instagram and Facebook.
